We act as a licensing body for production houses and record companies (the users of copyright) who do NOT distribute product through the major record companies. (The latter distributors have their own royalty divisions and they account directly to the publishers twice a year). NORM also licenses commercial music usages in audiovisuals, stage shows where recorded back tracks are used, ringtone downloads to cell phones, and promotional CDs. We issue Mood Music licences to copyright users and a rate card can be obtained on application. NORM licenses its members’ works for music broadcast on SABC where programmes are made by outside production houses. We have blanket licensing agreements with MNet/DSTV and Etv and we are currently in negotiations with the SABC.
